Great Tire for my Vintage Marukin M420!

When I had my vintage road bike overhauled earlier this year, I wanted another set of IRC tires that I had on it. Unfortunately, they're no longer made, so I asked the LBS what they recommended. He recommended the Panaracer Pasela ProTite. Not only is it a good tire; not only does it have that vintage look and style that is visually appropriate for a 38 year old bike; and it's made in the 27" size. 27" tires aren't as easy to find anymore; your choices are limited vs. the 700 size. The LBS recommended these tires, saying that they offered good quality and value. He was right. If you need 27" tires, these are the ONLY tires you need!

I like the round profile, so turn-in feels good and is predictable at all angles. I opted for the 1-1/4 width to have a little extra shock absorption. The tires ride well once they have a few miles on them. The puncture protection belt needs to be loosened up; until it is, the tires have a bit of a stiff ride. Once broken in though, these tires ride well. They also have low rolling resistance, so you can ride fast. That is to say that the Pasela ProTite offers a good mix of good ride, good handling, and low rolling resistance. The tan sidewalls really enhance the look of my vintage road bike; they really "pop", as they visually add that something extra. The cherry on top is Japanese quality at an affordable price! You can't go wrong with these tires.

So round, so firm, so fully packed

the profile is awesome. nice and round so that there are no profile changes as you lean and corner.
Very stable and I think reasonable Balance between rolling resistance and comfort.
I like the puncture resistance and think I've benefited from it. For a while running some unknown tire on the rear, a cheap black wall tire. in a year 3 flats on it and not flats on the front Pasela. Now with Pasela front and rear, and about 500 miles on the new tire and possibly nearing 2k on the front, I (knock wood)have been lucky with no puncture flats.
I love the look of the gum sidewalls and the profile. they look nice and plump and round.

My tires are 700x35m Pasela ProTite with gum (tan) sidewalls. I have the mounted on my 1998 Trek 520. This vintage Trek 520 does not have space on the front fork to allow for a larger tire than the 35. it is less than 1/8 inch between the tire and the stering tube that the fork legs are welded to. I'd go for 38s if I had room.
