I mounted the 650bx38s on a new bike. They mount well and roll nicely but unfortunately a trip to the ER for stitches convinced me that these simply don't have as good traction on pavement. My usual bike has 700x28 Tservs and I have a route I've done on this bike dozens of times. Yesterday with the gravelkings the front washed out on me in a curve. I don't know if it's the compound, the diamond texture tread, or maybe some slick mold release still on the tires but these simply don't grip pavement well.
Great tire, rides like you're on a cloud! It was little bit difficult to mount being such a large tire on a large rim but man it was worth it! It handles rough roads and light gravel wonderfully. So far, no punctures or leaks. It's the perfect tire for the roads I ride.
The industry standard for light, supple and reasonably priced. I think I own or have owned these in almost all widths (28, 32, 35, 38). They just work. I have only set up one pair tubeless and had no trouble with them, but I've heard stories from others.
If you can fit it, 700x43 is pretty much the perfect party pace road tire
The versatility and speed of these tires are fantastic. They feel fast on the road, wet or dry, at just about no detriment to performance in light gravel.
However, mounting these tires tubeless is a true test of patience and sanity. Do yourself a favor and go straight to mounting these with a tube, pull the tube out while praying the bead stays seated, and reinflate.
